We are an agrarian community found primarily in the state of Andhra Pradesh. We are the descendants of the Kaampu tribe, with our roots leading to Kampilya, Mithila and Ayodhya. We primarily speak Telugu. We were the earliest inhabitants of the Deccan region, who migrated from the north, cleared forests for agriculture, and built settlements.

Our forefathers predominantly concentrated in the coastal districts, North Telangana and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Members of our community are also found in large numbers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and some other Indian states as well as Sri Lanka.

Our ancestors have also served as traders with a close link with Kakateeya and Vijayanagara Empire. Over the passage of time, members of our community have adapted several professions. In the Medieval period, our forefathers have acted as guards and protected inhabitants from various plunderers and invaders. Later they served as village heads giving advice to various people.
